SAA Coloring Book

February 2011

Southbury Ambulance Association has always been involved in a variety of community events such as; the AMBER Alert which will be held this March 19th at their facility, the Southbury Celebration, the Emergency Services Public Safety Day, the PES carnival, the PHS Mock Crash, 10K Southbury Race, emergency medical events and various town-wide church fairs and school functions.   SAA also holds Emergency Medical Technician, Emergency Medical Response and CPR classes to educate the public in medical emergency services.

In a special effort to reach out to children, Southbury Ambulance Association is happy to introduce a new coloring book that will be distributed to children to educate them in the operations of the ambulance.  Over the years, Geralyn Hoyt, President of SAA, believed it would be beneficial for the organization to have its own coloring book.  The goal was to familiarize the children about handling a 911 emergency call and what to expect when an ambulance comes to their home.  The pictures should be friendly and clearly teach children not to be frightened in this type of a situation.  Rather than using a generic coloring book, children will know that a medical team from SAA will be there to assist them and/or their family and friends in an emergency.

Geralyn recently met with Eric Cieply and shared her ideas for this concept.  The coloring book was then created by Eric, who has been an active member of Southbury ambulance for the past nine years. At the age of fourteen he started his volunteer work as an Medical Response Technician, and graduated two years later to a state certified Emergency Medical Technician. Now, Eric continues to volunteer hours as an EMT while pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in justice and law administration at Western Connecticut State University.  His dedication to his community continues through his illustration and creation of the Southbury ambulance coloring book which not only provides a fun activity for kids, but uses simple language to explain how to better be prepared in emergency situations.

SAA looks forward to distributing these coloring books at the many functions that are planned in the future.  For more information about Southbury Ambulance Association, visit our website at www.southburyambulance.org <http://www.southburyambulance.org/>  or contact us at 203-262-8082.
